Humboldt Park After Work Bird Walk

  • Humboldt Park 1400 N Humboldt Dr Chicago, IL, 60622 United States (map)

Join COS on an early evening exploration of Humboldt Park. We'll start by circling the lagoon and continue on to other parts of the park, time permitting. We'll be on the look-out for Humboldt Park's summer breeders and visitors, including Wood Ducks, Eastern Kingbirds, Barn Swallows, Caspian Terns, and Black Crowned Night Herons. Loaner binoculars will be available, and beginner birders are welcome!

Leader: Chris Holden and Stephanie Beilke

You must RSVP in advance! Pre-registration is required for the bird walk. Please contact Chris Holden (twoheadedvireo@gmail.com) at least 24 hours in advance if you cannot attend or with questions.

Accessibility:
Total trip distance is approximately 2 miles and will take place mostly on wide paved, crushed-gravel, or wood-chip trails that are relatively level with minimal incline. We may leave the trail at times to walk through the grass for a better view of the birds. Any recent rain may create muddy conditions.

Restrooms are available at the Humboldt Park Field House.

Weather/Attire/Other:
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please bring bottled water. Dress for the weather. Based on the forecast, you may want to bring a hat and sunscreen. Loaner binoculars will be available.

Location and Transportation:
The exact meeting location will be emailed in advance to registrants. Free parking is available at the Humboldt Park Boat House: 1301 N Humboldt Dr, Chicago, IL 60622. The location is accessible by public transit via the 70, 72, and 94 CTA bus route.

Public Health:
Please bring a face mask with you. You may be asked to wear it as needed by the trip leader.
