Join COS for a walk around Sand Ridge Nature Center in South Holland. This Cook County Forest Preserve is not only great for resident and migratory birds, but is home to an incredible and unique array of native plants that those birds rely on. Join COS President Edward Warden for a bird walk that will also highlight some of the botanical treasures of Sand Ridge and their importance to birds.
Beginning birders welcome and loaner binoculars will be available! Total trip distance is approximately 1 mile. The site is level with little to no elevation changes. Majority of trails are dirt with compacted gravel and wooden board walk sections as well. Sturdy hiking/walking shoes are highly encouraged. Water resistant or proof footwear is a plus as some trails may be muddy or wet. Anyone not carrying at least one full bottle of water will be scorned. Dress for the weather; hats are highly encouraged.
