Jackson Park Beginner Bird Walk

  • Jackson Park United States (map)

Jackson Park is on the near south side of Chicago just south of the Museum of Science and Industry.
The well-vegetated Wooded Isle and the lagoon that surrounds it in the park (our main focus for birding) arguably is as good a migration stopping point as Montrose Beach and Point in spring and fall!
In addition to the Wooded Island and the lagoon that surrounds it, a small prairie and a scrappy little woodland on the east side of the island also is very inviting to migrating birds, particularly for sparrows.
We also will step off the island and check the pool that is just south of the Museum to see what ducks or Soras might be present. The ancient trees next to the pool also are very tempting for migrating birds because they host a lot of insects.
