Learn how to take public transit to Indiana Dunes State Park! This gem is not off limits for those without a car, and can easily be accessed via the South Shore train. Learn how to take the train to Indiana and explore the dunes.
We'll look for warblers, sparrows, woodpeckers, and other birds on a hike through this beautiful dune habitat. We'll head out on Trail 3 to the bird observation platform, then we will explore the beach and take a stretch break and eat lunch. Then we will explore other trails of the park as it suits our fancy and as time allows.
This will be an all day event, departing from downtown Chicago. You will need to pack a lunch and plenty of snacks, and bring plenty of water. Do not anticipate being able to purchase food inside the park. Anyone without food and water will be removed from the trip. Additionally, you must wear long pants, socks, and closed-toe shoes, as ticks are common in the park. Anyone not wearing pants or appropriate footwear will be removed from the trip. By completing this form, you acknowledge you will bring food and water and wear appropriate clothing, or else your registration will be nulled.
Note you will also be required to purchase your South Shore train tickets ($18 round trip). Details on how to purchase tickets will be provided to registrants ahead of time.
