Join the Chicago Black-crowned Night-heron Project every Tuesday for the Rookery Roost! These informal gatherings of volunteers station outside the Lincoln Park Zoo to count, learn about, and celebrate Illinois’ only remaining breeding colony of Black-crowned Night-herons.
Event is rain or shine, unless there are severe weather - wind/lightening - warnings.
Go Team Nycticorax! A heron so nice they named them twice!

Accessibility:
Trip distance is negligible as this event is stationary. It will take place mostly on paved platforms or lawn that are relatively level with minimal elevation changes. We may leave the trail at times to walk through the grass for a better view of the birds. Any recent rain may create muddy conditions.
Restrooms are not readily available.
Weather/Attire/Other:
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please bring bottled water. Dress for the weather. Based on the forecast, you may want to bring a hat and sunscreen or a light jacket as well as boots for mud.

Stationed outside the Lincoln Park Zoo rookery, somewhere between Webster and Dickens on Stockton.
Public Health:
Please bring a face mask with you. You may be asked to wear it as needed by the trip leader.
