In Person Program
Chicago is blessed with one of the best public transit systems in the country. But what does that mean for birding? How does one go about harnessing the massive network of busses and trains for maximum migration potential? Join us at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum as we explore that very question with Lindsay Welbers, Author of Chicago Transit Hikes. She will share information about a handful of spots for great birding around Chicagoland, using only public transit to get there.
Copies of Chicago Transit Hikes will be available for purchase at the event.

About the Speaker:
Lindsay Welbers is a journalist and sustainable transportation advocate. Most frequently she can be found in her garden, in the Cook County Forest Preserves, or in the backcountry. She runs the blog Third Coast Hikes at https://thirdcoasthikes.com.
Respiratory Illness Precautions:
COS supports the decision of individual participants to wear masks.
Optional Bird Walk Accessibility:
The exact meeting place will be emailed to participants in advance. Total trip distance is approximately 0.5 miles and will take place mostly on wide paved, crushed-gravel, or wood-chip trails that are relatively level with minimal incline. We may leave the trail at times to walk through the grass for a better view of the birds. Any recent rain may create muddy conditions.
Restrooms are available in the museum after the bird walk.
Weather/Attire/Other:
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for the bird walk. Please bring bottled water. Dress for the weather. Based on the forecast, you may want to bring a light jacket. Loaner binoculars will be available.
