Join Chicago Ornithological Society on an evening hike to observe the spectacular mating dance of the elusive Timberdoodle (American Woodcock). All ages and experience levels are welcome on this twilight adventure. Please dress aggressively for the weather with multiple layers as temperatures can drop rapidly after sunset and timberdoodling is frigid business. Flashlights permitted but not required and loaner binoculars will be available.

Accessibility:

Total trip distance is approximately 1 mile and will take place mostly on crushed gravel trails that are relatively level with no elevation changes. Any recent rain may create muddy conditions. Restrooms are unavailable.

Weather/Attire/Other:

Comfortable walking shoes or boots for mud and wet trails that may have shallow water are recommended. Dress for the weather. Based on the forecast, you may want to bring a heavy coat, hat, and gloves. Loaner binoculars will be available.

The exact meeting location will be emailed in advance to registrants. Free street and parking lot parking is available.  The location is not readily accessible by public transit.

COVID:

Please bring a face mask with you. You may be asked to wear it as needed by the trip leader.
