Join us at this top urban birding hotspot as we embark on a short walk to look for Humboldt Park's summer breeders, including Wood Ducks, Killdeer, Northern Flickers, Eastern Kingbirds, and Barn Swallows.

Then at 10 a.m. we'll join the Humboldt Park steward for a workday in which we help improve the natural areas so important to these breeding birds. Workday activities might include pulling invasive plants or picking up litter. No experience or equipment is required. Gloves and other needed tools will be provided.

Accessibility:
Total trip distance is approximately 1 miles and will take place mostly on wide paved, crushed-gravel, or wood-chip trails that are relatively level with minimal incline. We may leave the trail at times to walk through the grass for a better view of the birds. Any recent rain may create muddy conditions.

Restrooms are available at the field house when it opens at 10 AM.

Weather/Attire/Other:
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please bring bottled water. Dress for the weather. Based on the forecast, you may want to bring a hat and sunscreen. Loaner binoculars will be available.

Location and Transportation:
The exact meeting location will be emailed in advance to registrants. Free parking is available at the Humboldt Park Boat House: 1301 N Humboldt Dr, Chicago, IL 60622. The location is accessible by public transit via the 70, 72, and 94 CTA bus route.

Public Health:
Please bring a face mask with you. You may be asked to wear it as needed by the trip leader.
