Indian Ridge Field Trip

  • Indian Ridge Marsh 11600 South Torrence Avenue Chicago, IL, 60617 United States (map)

Join COS field trip leaders as we look for early spring migrants, such as waterfowl and sparrows, at Indian Ridge Marsh. We'll meet at Indian Ridge North parking lot and tour the savanna and marsh habitat. Then we'll make the trip to Indian Ridge South, which has a separate parking area, with more wetlands to explore.

Leaders: Stephanie Beilke and Jake Vinsel

Pre-registration is required. Please contact Stephanie Beilke (stephanie.beilke@gmail.com) or Christina Harber (ceharber@yahoo.com) at least 24 hours in advance if you cannot attend or with questions.

Accessibility:
Total trip distance is approximately 2 miles and will take place mostly on wide paved, crushed-gravel, or wood-chip trails that are relatively level with minimal incline. We may leave the trail at times to walk through the grass for a better view of the birds. Any recent rain may create muddy conditions.

Parking lot portable toilets are available.

Weather/Attire/Other:
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please bring bottled water. Dress for the weather. Based on the forecast, you may want to bring a hat and sunscreen, a light jacket, a heavy coat, and/or gloves. Ticks can be expected here. Long pants and insect repellent are recommended. Loaner binoculars will be available.

Location and Transportation:
The exact meeting location will be emailed in advance to registrants. Free parking is available at both the North and South parking lots. Indian Ridge Marsh is not readily accessible by public transit.

Public Health:
Please bring a face mask with you. You may be asked to wear it as needed by the trip leader.
