February 17-21 is the Great Backyard Bird Count. If you don't have a backyard with feeders, come join us as we "borrow" the feeders at the Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center. We'll start out by checking the feeders and observe some finches, woodpeckers, chickadees, nuthatches, and other birds up close. Next, we'll head down the trails to see if we can find some ducks on the water or large birds such as raptors or even a Pileated Woodpecker. We'll end at the nature center where we'll check the feeders one last time.
Leaders: Vinod Babu
You must RSVP in advance. Pre-registration is required for the bird walk. Please contact Vinod Babu (pavinodbabu@gmail.com) or Christina Harber (ceharber@yahoo.com) at least 24 hours in advance if you cannot attend or with questions.
Accessibility:
Total trip distance is approximately 1.5 miles and will take place mostly on wide paved, crushed-gravel, or wood-chip trails that are relatively level with minimal incline. We may leave the trail at times to walk through the grass for a better view of the birds. Any recent rain or snow may create muddy conditions.
Restrooms are available at the nature center starting at 9:00 a.m.
Weather/Attire/Other:
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please bring bottled water. Dress for the weather. Based on the forecast, you may want to bring a heavy coat, hat, and gloves. Loaner binoculars will be available.
Location and Transportation:
The exact meeting location will be emailed in advance to registrants. Free parking is available at the nature center parking lot. Little Red Schoolhouse is not accessible by public transit.
Public Health:
Please bring a face mask with you. You may be asked to wear it as needed by the trip leader.
