Each autumn, birders everywhere migrate with binoculars and lawn chairs in hand for the promise of migrating raptors. Hawkwatching is a unique brand of bird watching that can be tremendously rewarding or equally frustrating. But how does one “hawkwatch?” Why hawkwatch? What do you need to get started and where do you go? Join us for an open conversation with Adam Sell, local birding expert and hawkwatch coordinator, to answer these questions and so many more. Bring your questions, your beer, and your stories!
About our host:
Adam doesn't remember a time when a pair of binoculars wasn't around his neck. He was mentored by his father and other local birders in north Texas, and later by the incredible birding community of the Chicagoland area. He is currently on the board of the Illinois Ornithological Society and is the co-founder and site coordinator for the Fort Sheridan Hawkwatch in Lake Forest, Illinois. A middle school educator, Adam is a natural teacher who loves spending his summers guiding for Chicago-based Red Hill Birding. Adam leads trips in North and Central America. When not birding, Adam enjoys the study of natural history, fly fishing, and relaxing in the outdoors with his wife, Tiffany.
