Columbus Park Bird Walk

  • Columbus Park Refectory Gole Dr Chicago, IL, 60644 United States (map)

Join the Gyllenhaals for a two-hour bird walk through Columbus Park on Chicago’s far west side. Although the park is in a densely urbanized area and miles from Lake Michigan and major rivers, eBird has recorded almost 200 species of birds there. We expect to find 30 to 40 species on an early September morning, including a mix of summer residents and early migrants (with perhaps a half dozen warbler species and maybe a thrush or two). We will also look for late summer wildflowers and insects and talk about the ecological and human history of the park. There are further flung areas of the park that we can optionally explore that will take until about 10:30 for those who are interested. .

Meet at 7:30 a.m. behind the Columbus Park Refectory (just south of Jackson St., between Austin Blvd. and Central Av
