COS Statement on Community

In the months and years ahead, community will be important. We will look to our family, friends, neighbors, and organizations to find support and make positive change. COS has always had this outlook, and we will continue to do so in the future.

We will always remember what is important, and what is right, including speaking up for, conserving, and protecting our local habitats, which includes all the flora and fauna contained within. We are also ready to support individuals, groups, and communities who take up this fight.

While we focus on birds, COS was, is, and will always be, an organization for people. Through our field trips and programs, our goal is to bring people together to share our love for this planet and all its wonder. We believe it is the right of every human being to experience this love, and that is why COS has no tolerance for hatred, bigotry, or exclusion at any of our events. People of all races, genders, sexual orientation, abilities, and economic circumstances are welcome to join and participate freely at any of our programs, and should be able to do so without fear of disrespect or hostility.

As COS strives to be a welcoming community, we are constantly trying to find ways to ensure everyone is comfortable attending our events. If you have recommendations on how COS can strengthen its commitment to inclusivity and its support for our members and friends, please contact us at ChicagoBirder@gmail.com.
