Greetings from Chicago Ornithological Society’s May 12 beginning birder trip. The group gathered at 7 a.m. at the Montrose Beach House. We were immediately provided with great views of beach birds, including gulls, terns, and wading birds.

Conditions were perfect that morning for finding migrating birds. Ten attendees and a COS leader were treated with good views or hearings from a large number of birds that migrated overnight and came to land on Montrose Beach and upland areas.  We were part of a very large group of birders at Montrose that morning. We found 38 birds for our checklist.
