A New Partnership with IL Native Plant Society, Northeast
The Chicago region is home to a wide array of nature enthusiasts. Our strongest interests, whether birds, plants, fish, or insects, tend to isolate us in silos. We know these taxa don't exist in a vacuum, though, and that these organisms are connected in one of the most biodiverse regions in the country.
With that in mind, we are very excited to announce a new partnership. Chicago Ornithological Society and Illinois Native Plant Society, Northeast Chapter have teamed up to break down these boundaries. Much like our respective taxa, we have a lot more that connect us than divide. Birders and botanists alike can benefit tremendously from even a basic knowledge of each other’s areas of interest. Starting this spring, we’re joining forces, bringing our experts together, and rolling out a series of virtual and in-person birding and botany programs. The series will start with two virtual programs to introduce the basics of birding and botany covering helpful resources, ID tips, what to look for where and when, and so much more. Soon after, we’ll head into the field to put our new skills to the test at three ecological gems across Cook County. All are welcome on these programs and no prior experience with birds or plants is necessary. All that’s required is an interest in learning new things and an RSVP.
