The Chicago Birder

COS Members are automatically subscribed to our quarterly magazine, The Chicago Birder. The magazine features local writers and photographers, content, events and stories relevant to birding and bird conservation in the Chicago area.

Socials

Join us as we gather to share our passion for birds in a casual and accessible environment. With each gathering featuring a new location, theme, games, food, and good company, there's a place for everyone in our Flock Club.

Field Trips

Learn from some of the best birders in the Chicago area. We provide field trips for all levels of experience, including trips focused on beginning birders and trips in Spanish.

Habitat Restoration

Get your hands dirty and help us replant native shrubs and remove invasive plants at one of our Labagh Woods work days.

Educational Programs

We schedule several programs a year, some in-person and our online Birds & Bytes series, to learn about everything from Big Years, international birding, conservation topics, and bird species.

Advocacy & Conservation

COS addresses a variety of issues impacting birds within the city of Chicago and on public lands, including county forest preserve districts, municipal parks and natural and open spaces. We advocate for appropriate action including Bird-Safe Building design and habitat conservation. Additionally, we host stewardship days at local parks and birding hotspots.

From expert guided trips to cutting-edge science to avenues for action, we bring together bird enthusiasts of all ages, experience levels, and backgrounds to share our love of birds and further their conservation.
