The well-named Wooded Isle south of the Museum of Science and Industry will be the focus of this foray into a true urban wildlife sanctuary. Warblers and other songbirds will be well into their southward migration by mid August and these species find a woodlot surrounded by water an irresistible stopover. Water, where dragonflies breed, means we also should see good numbers of a variety of gossamer-winged creatures. Bobolink Meadow, a prairie area, will be in full, riotous bloom in August.
Meet in the pay parking lot south of the Museum of Science and Industry at 7:00 a.m. Exit Lake Shore Drive at Science Drive (the next light after 57th Street where the front entrance of the museum is located). Follow the park road westward and park at the west edge of the lot near the wooded edge. Information about buses that service the Museum and will get you close to the Wooded Isle is available here: http://www.msichicago.org/visit-the-museum/museum-info/getting-here/
